Going Green with Utility Construction Projects
Speaker:
Dr. Sam Ariaratnam

Using traditional open-cut methods for the installation
of underground utilities has been common practice in the construction industry
for many years. Today, engineers are being tasked with the requirement of
selecting a suitable construction method that not only offers the most
economical solutions, but also minimizes impact to the environment. In
order to use a more "green" principle, trenchless construction methods are being
used to result in considerably less emitted emissions into the atmosphere.
Join Dr. Sam Ariaratnam, Professor in the Del
E. Webb School of Construction at Arizona State University and expert on Urban
Infrastructure systems, for a presentation describing a methodology for
quantifying the emission effects (i.e. carbon footprint) of a typical
underground utility project.
