Purpose of Position:
The role of the wish manager is to manage the wish experience within the policies and procedures established by the National Office and the local Make-A-Wish Foundation® chapter.  Position may be required to perform other job-related tasks in addition to those specifically presented in this description.
 
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
• Provides excellent customer service and communication to wish children, wish families, volunteers, affiliates, medical professionals, vendors, donors, and co-workers.
• De-escalate high stress phone calls with wish families facing highly traumatic situations.
• Manages all specific aspects involved with each wish, including but not limited to:  transportation, accommodations, services, assisting chapters, project planning, site visits, obtaining governmental permits when applicable, project design, medical equipment, necessary medical forms, liability forms, and itineraries.
• Ensures that vision of child is met to best of organizational ability.  Exercises independent judgement through the vision discovery in circumstances where children are undecided or are unable to verbalize their wish.
• Responsible for responding to any medical emergencies, or other emergencies during the timeframe that the wish child/family is engaged in thdate wish.  Accountable for independently modifying wish plans as necessary to accommodate wish emergencies.  Will responsibly return wish family emergency phone calls within two hour of emergency notification.
• Has sole discretion for planning and managing the quality of each wish once wish is determined to completion.  Ensures wishes are granted expeditiously, with uniformity, using the highest standards of excellence while adhering to budget and policies.
• Independently analyzes applicable medical data and social work information for each child receiving a wish to ensure that any medical needs are adequately addressed in the wish process.  Communicates directly with medical professional to obtain any additional medical information needed to proceed with wish planning.
• Serves as project manager, including but not limited to analyzing project scope, communicating vendor expectations across multiple wish projects, setting deadlines, creating schedules, and managing risk mitigation.
• Identifies, obtains, and stewards donors as wish resources on a continual basis.
• Responsible for developing and ensuring an appropriate and unique budget for each wish.
• Works on wishes with goal of obtaining annually determined in-kind percent ratio and monitors cash costs closely adjusting wish expenses as necessitated.  Manages reimbursements and check requests submitted by volunteers to guarantee accuracy with proper documentation and coding.
• Works within the structure and design of wish granting policies and procedures to ensure quality wishes are granted while maintaining sensitivity to the needs of wish families and their unique circumstances.
• Briefs Wish Leadership on progress of goals and updated program activities.
• Inputs, updates, and maintains wish information in Salesforce database as planning/progression of wish occurs.  Document all communications with organizational constituents.
• Keep abreast of National policies, guidelines and resources as they relate to the wish-granting program.
• Ensures all wish follow up work is completed; includes thank you’s, anecdotal reports, wish receipt, in-kinds, wish file close out, etc.
• Responsible for training, guiding, and managing volunteers in each wish granted.  Provide wish granting volunteers with the most up-to-date and current tools to help facilitate volunteer responsibilities in the best way possible as it relates to wishes.
• Assist Development Team with events and other fundraising activities based on seasonal needs
 
Job Qualifications

•          Ability to works with families from differing socio-economic, medical, developmental, religious, ethnic, race, and sexual orientation backgrounds.

•          Able to be exposed to inclement and outdoor weather
 
Training/Education

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Project Management Certified with a focus in construction preferred
  • Familiarity Microsoft Office Suite and database management software, preferably Salesforce
Experience
  • 2+ yrs. of non-profit experience, project management, social services experience, or comparable.
•          Professional customer service experience/excellent phone presentation skills
